While Honda is being incredibly coy regarding what to expect, 2023 sees the popular HR-V crossover undergoing a massive overhaul for Honda’s Year of the Crossover (as is expected with the CR-V and Pilot as well). While information is limited, explore what we know—and what we expect—with Southern Ontario’s premier destination for all things Honda: Welland Honda!

What We Know About the 2023 Honda HR-V

Fully Redesigned

Honda Canada’s press release promises that a fully redesigned version of the HR-V will touch down at Honda dealerships like Welland Honda later this year. Design details are minimal, though Honda offered a pair of painting-like images accompanying their press release, showcasing an undoubtedly sport crossover offering an athletic stance and appeal. An aggressively sculpted hood slants down toward an all-black grille, while the slim rear headlights draw immediate comparisons to those found on the 2022 Civic. Perhaps the biggest difference comes in the form of exterior door handles, replacing the hidden handles found in the door frames of the 2022 model.

The European version of the 2022 Honda HR-V, known as the Vezel, was also redesigned this year, though Honda Canada claims that the two vehicles offer a substantially different look. Even with that being said, there appears to be some similarities between the two models—presumably a direction we will see all of the redesigned Honda vehicles following. The interior will also be revamped, with the expectation that it will also follow in the more intuitive, spacious style of the 2022 Civic.

More Standard Features

Once again, the information is sparse but Honda does claim that the 2023 HR-V will offer “more standard features than ever”—no small feat for this already well-equipped Honda. It’s safe to assume that means the inclusion of Honda Sensing™ technologies, maybe even perhaps a few additions to the current suite of safety and driver assistance features.

Performance

This is where we’re really left to speculate as to how the 2023 Honda HR-V will differ from the current iteration. While Honda has tried to distance the new European version from the one set to appear in North America, it’s worth noting that the Vezel is offered with both a gas-powered and hybrid powertrain. It would also stand to reason that this rugged-looking crossover is a candidate for a TrailSport trim, adding even more off-road capability to the upcoming HR-V.
